Summer League Parent & Player Meeting - Sunday Night - June 25th from 7pm-7:30pm. Please attend to meet the league coordinators, pick up your jersey and learn about the structure of the league. We start MONDAY - June 26th!!!

Welcome to the 8th Year of our evolving and growing summer basketball program. As you know the platform for this league is to encourage our athlete’s to self-regulate and govern their on-court competition. The league is designed in the spirit of traditional pick-up basketball. No coaches. No officials. Just competitors working out the game and its rules without interference.

Here are the guidelines of the league:

  • Open to boys and girls entering 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grade.
  • Open to any neighboring town or participant willing to make the trek to Morris Plains.
  • All games will be contested on 1 of our three new or renovated outdoor courts located at the Morris Plains Community Center Sports Facility off Jim Fear Road.
  • Games will be played:
    • Monday Nights 6:00-8:00pm - GIRLS
    • Wednesday Nights 6:00-8:00pm - BOYS
    • Each grade level will be designated a court.
    • League will start Monday – June 26th and end Wednesday August 23th.
  • Supervision:
    • The MPBA will provide a site coordinator who will be outfitted with basketballs, a clock and scoreboard.
    • The coordinator is responsible for getting games organized, keeping them timed and fair.
    • The coordinator is not an official and is not responsible for calling fouls.
    • The coordinator IS NOT permitted to start or run any games if a parent is not willing to serve as volunteer supervisor.
    • Participating player parents must be present and take an active role in ensuring disagreements are handled fairly and without incident.
  • Game structure:
    • 5-on-5 games are played either as first team to 15 straight-up or 15 minutes.
      • Rotation of teams or timed games is contingent upon how many players are waiting for the next game.
    • Winners stay on for one game if there is an odd number of teams.
    • All baskets are 1 point unless the players wish to count 3-point shots as 2 points.
    • Players are to call their own fouls and violations.
    • Any player or parent unable to respectfully handle disagreements will be removed from the league without refund.

  • Fee’s:
    • The cost of the league is $25/player.
      • Includes a reversible game shirt.

The league is designed for the players to enjoy the outdoors, good competition and learn the value of self-governance that we learned in our youth.

We look forward to your participation. Please sign-up at and be on the look-out for on-site meeting, shirt pick-up, etc.

Concussion Training

Dear Coaches,

There has been a significant increase in child Concussions that has become more of the norm than ever before. Recently there has been legislation passed that will require every parent that will be coaching children to take an online course that will help identify concussion symptoms early and hopefully help avoid long term issues. It is equally important for every parent regardless of child’s age to also become aware of this serious type of injury.

Therefore all coaches in MP who have not already done so must go online here and take this course and become certified.  (Once you have done it, you don't have to ever do it again).  We will require each coach to provide a copy of the completed certification. We will be working on who and where to send the certification and will let all know. In the meantime, any active coach must go to this site and take the course or you will not be allowed to continue coaching. Please hold onto the certification as we will direct you where to send.

If you have the certificate please make a copy and provide to Judy Landi prior to the start of the season. If you have not take the on-line course please do so and print out the certificate and give a copy to Judy.

Until you have the opportunity to provide Judi the certificate please provide us an e-mail confirming that you have completed the on-line course.
